Beebe Medical Center in Lewes says the 2008 fiscal year was a record year for births at the hospital. Nurse manager Beverly Turney says the hospital delivered 1,005 babies in the 12 month period that ended June 30. That's up from 976 the year before.

She says the hospital is expecting another record year. The hospital attributes the increase in deliveries to the growing population of the area.

Turney says the hospital has run a full staff both shifts to accommodate the volume of deliveries.

Beebe is plans to begin adding more beds to the women's health area beginning this summer.
