Home invasion suspect arrested

January 12, 2009 19-year-old Andrew Charles, of the unit block of Jill Court in Wilmington, is charged with robbery and related offenses after detectives identified him as one of two men who had committed a home invasion and robbed two victims.

On Saturday at 10:25 a.m., police responded to a residence on North Park Drive for a report of a home invasion. The two adult victims told police they had just been robbed by two armed men who forced their way into the home.

The female victim said she was inside her home when she heard the front door open. When she walked to the front of the residence, she observed two black male subjects dressed all in black clothing already inside her home. The subjects pointed a sawed-off shotgun at her and her male house guest and demanded their money.

The two victims relinquished cash and other items.

The victims immediately called police after the suspects fled the home.

While searching the area around the home, officers discovered information that led them to Charles in the Holly Oak Manor Apartments.

While checking an apartment in the complex police found Andrew Charles and some of the victim's property. A subsequent search warrant for the home yielded a sawed-off shotgun, a handgun and other items belonging to the victims.

Charles was arrested without incident and charged with two counts of robbery in the first degree, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, burglary, conspiracy and possession of a destructive device.
