Long engagement not necessary

TINLEY PARK, Ill. (AP) - January 12, 2009

But they've waited a lifetime to do it.

The new bride is 84, while the groom is 82.

The pair had been friends and bridge partners for about a year.

But their romance only started to bloom around Christmas.

That's when Williams got the nerve to kiss Taylor.

The two decided to get hitched within the week, at the suburban Chicago retirement center where they live.

The son-in-law of the bride notes, "When you're 84 and 82, you don't need a long engagement."
