Fatal crash closes Route 48

HOCKESSIN, Del. - January 13, 2009 Delaware State Police are investigating the death of 21-year-old Jason Phillips. Phillips was driving a Ford Windstar westbound on Route 48 when he crossed over the eastbound lanes and traveled off of the roadway. He was ejected from his vehicle after it rolled down an embankment.

A passerby noticed a minivan off the road this morning shortly after 7:00 a.m. and reported it to police. Officals closed Lancaster Pike for several hours.

Police said speed and alcohol played a factor in the crash. Phillips was driving with a suspended license and was not wearing his seatbelt.
