Even the army is going green

WASHINGTON (AP) - January 13, 2009

Yesterday, the Army received the first of 4,000 small electric cars and trucks it will lease for use on U.S. military bases.

But the little flatbed trucks won't be seeing any combat.

They will be used for duties that include security and maintenance work.

The Army says the electric vehicles will save about 11.5 million gallons of gas over the next six years.

An Abrams tank by comparison burns a gallon of fuel for every two miles.
