The 8-inch main broke Wednesday morning at 2:00 on McDade Boulevard near Cherry Street in Colingdale.
Water poured into the street and much of it froze almost instantly.
Utility workers got to the intersection in just a few minutes and cut off the water.
McDade Boulevard was closed at the scene while workers made the repair.
Around 40 homes were without water because of the 8-inch cement water main break.
All the homes got their water back around 11:00 a.m.
