"The whole house is a litter box, there's feces everywhere," Officer Wayne Smith of the SPCA said.
SPCA officers estimate more than 30 cats, many of them feral, have been living in the filth and garbage. It appears the woman who lives at the home has been collecting trash for months, possibly years.
Officers only retrieved three cats. The rest of them hid in a maze of tunnels underneath the garbage.
"Probably a lot of homeowners around here are missing cats and they're up in there," Officer Smith said.
Authorities are not releasing the homeowner's name, but she apparently suffers from mental illness.
She's been committed to a local hospital, after her elderly mother notified police and the SPCA.
SPCA, with the help of the city's Licenses and Inspections department will be back at the home tomorrow, clearing trash, and find out how many animals are inside the home.
