Investigators say Officer Eric Bittman, 36, was driving southbound when his cruiser drove into the northbound lane, striking a Buick driven by Susan Cossabone, 50.
Both Officer Bittman and Cossabone had to be taken to the hospital, and were listed in stable condition.
Another driver, 24-year-old Jessica Sumervell, crashed after she swerved to avoid the accident. She was not injured.
Police say the accident was one of several handled Sunday night because of icy roads.
