Obama praised McCain at a dinner tonight in Washington honoring the Republican senator from Arizona whom Obama defeated in the November election.
Obama put their campaign criticisms behind them and called for help "in making this bipartisan dinner not just an inaugural tradition, but a new way of doing the people's business in this city."
A young, aspiring singer dedicated the national anthem to Michelle Obama as the youth inaugural concert kicked off tonight.
Obama and her daughters Malia and Sasha - who was clutching a camera - took their front-row seats at "Kids' Inaugural: We Are the Future" just before Elijah Lawrence hit all the high notes of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
Next on stage was Miley Cyrus followed by Jamie Foxx leading a sing-along of "America the Beautiful."
The Obamas' daughters are known to be fans of Cyrus and her Disney TV alter ego Hannah Montana. Other headliners at the Verizon Center were the Jonas Brothers, Bow Wow and Corbin Bleu.
The crowd was made up of mostly military members and their children as well as local families.
