Sands officials say the casino is still on track for a Memorial Day weekend opening. But they say the global financial crisis caused them to halt work on the 300-room hotel and the shopping mall in October.
In an eight-page filing with the state Gaming Control Board they are now asking permission to suspend those projects until economic conditions change. The board is expected to schedule a hearing on the request in February.
