Fake grandson bilks thousands from Pa. woman

January 23, 2009 5:06:53 AM PST
State police say a 68-year-old Pennsylvania woman wired more than $6,000 to a man who claimed to be her grandson and said he needed the money for legal fees because he was in jail.

Police aren't identifying the woman, but say they've confirmed the man wasn't her grandson.

Police did not immediately say why the woman thought the suspect might be related to her.

The man has not been identified or charged. Police say the woman wired him the money after receiving phone calls on Tuesday and Wednesday.
