Child killed in Pa. school bus accident

NORTHAMPTON, Pa. - January 26, 2009 - It happened outside the middle school early Monday morning.

Investigators say that two 7th graders were "horse-playing" near the bus.

Authorities say the victim, a 12-year-old Dakota Galusha of Allen Township, was accidentally pushed, or slipped into the path of the bus.

The bus driver unknowingly then drove over the boy.

The victim was not a passenger on the bus, but instead was simply near the bus when the accident occurred.

He was transported to St Luke's Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police and other investigators are now interviewing all those involved. The bus driver is said to be "devastated" by the incident.

"He was a very well-liked child, a vey nice boy," said superintendent Dr. Linda Firestone.

"I was with him on Saturday," said classmate Hugo LaChapelle. "We were at a party together."

Those who knew Galusha had only nice things to say about him.

"He liked to bike and hang out with friends. He was really nice," LaChapelle said, who said the accident seemed to affect everyone at the school. "Everyone was crying and a lot of people went home. It was disturbing."

Counselors will be available at the school all week.

Police continue to investigate this accident.
