Car careens into hydrant, causes flooding

UPLAND, N.J. - January 28, 2009 Upland Police tell Action News that just before 8:00 a.m. a woman driving an SUV struck a fire hydrant and then slammed into a telephone pole.

Weather is to blame for the accident.

While attempting to tow away the vehicle, the fire hydrant was damaged and began to leak. The leak is flooding the area around 21st and Upland Avenue.

The fire hydrant leak has also caused a larger water main to give way causing more water to flow into the streets.

Police are on scene and traffic is snarled in the area.

The woman in the SUV suffered minor injuries.

Nearby Crozier-Chester hospital is not being impacted by the water issues.
