Standoff at A.C. casino ends

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - January 30, 2009 Officers tell Action News that at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, a man wanted by police in Suffolk County, New York, was spotted by authorities in the Taj Mahal Hotel and Casino on Pennsylvania Avenue in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Casino security detained the main after a short scuffle, but while he was in a holding area on the casino property, he pulled a gun from his clothing and pointed it at his head. Officials say th man threatened to kill himself.

After nearly 11 hours, police and hostage negotiators were able to convince the suspect to surrender.

Officials say no civilians or casino workers are at risk and the casino is operating as usual.
