"We'll `fumigate state government'"

January 30, 2009 11:00:37 AM PST
Gov. Pat Quinn is moving quickly to put his predecessor's scandal-ridden tenure behind him, saying he's ready to "fumigate state government." Quinn said at a news conference Friday that he signed his first executive order, officially bringing the Illinois Reform Commission under the office of the governor.

Quinn created the commission when he was lieutenant governor in the wake of the arrest of Gov. Rod Blagojevich on federal corruption charges. The state Senate ousted Blagojevich on Thursday for abuse of power.

Friday is Quinn's first full day in office. He pledges to work with lawmakers and other state officials as a team.
