UPDATE: 3-year-old killed in fire truck crash

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - January 30, 2009 A 3-year-old girl was killed during the accident and a 3-year-old boy suffered fractures in both of his legs.

An autopsy of the girl, who was pronounced dead at approximately 7:48 pm, will be scheduled. The 3-year-old boy will be transferred to Saint Christopher Hospital in Philadelphia, PA for surgery.

Including the deceased 3-year-old girl and the 3-year-old boy that suffered the fractured legs, plus the drivers involved in the accident, it was reported that there were 11 victims. Only 4 of the 11 victims were injured. All involved parties were conveyed to Capital Health System at Fuld for observation and treatment.

The accident occurred between a Trenton fire truck and a white Ford Pickup truck - F-150. The driver of the Fire Truck was identified as Firefighter Ronald D. Hubscher, Jr., 46, and the driver of the pickup truck was identified as William N. Parks, 67, of Willingboro, NJ. Hubscher suffered a sprained wrist and Parks suffered a knee injury.

It was learned that Trenton Fire Department Engine #6 was proceeding southbound on Route #129 responding to a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Route #1 north and 129 North. The fire engine was responding with his lights and siren, and upon attempting to make a U-turn in order to proceed north on Route 129, a pickup truck, also traveling southbound, crashed into the fire truck while attempting to pass the fire truck in the left lane. The driver of the pick up truck lost control of his vehicle and struck the metal light post severing it at the base.

During this time the pick up truck struck the 3-year-old girl with the front end of the truck.

During the investigation it was learned that Mr. Parks was driving with a suspended driver's license. Mr. Parks was charged with driving with a suspended license, one count of causing injury, and failure to yield to an authorized emergency vehicle.

There is the possibility that Mr. Parks will be facing additional charges.

Fatal Crash Reconstructionist Investigators - Trenton Police Criminal Investigation Detective Rick Rivera and Detective Tony Abarno of the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office were summoned to respond to the scene to investigate this fatal Motor Vehicle Accident. The New Jersey State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection Unit is also assisting with the investigation.

Trenton Police Crime Scene Unit processed and photographed the scene.

Trenton Police Director Irving Bradley, Jr. was at the scene. Director Bradley expressed his most sincere and deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. He stated, "Words are not enough to ease the pain of this grieving family, but I will assured them that our most heart felt and sincere prayers are with them."

Detective Sergeant James Dellaira of the Trenton Police Criminal Investigation Bureau was at the scene supervising the investigation. Detective Captain Joseph Juniak, along with Detective Lieutenant Stephen Varn and Act/Lieutenant Christopher Doyle were assisting with the investigation.
