A former New Jersey state trooper who admitted receiving and selling Rolex watches stolen by a jewelry store robbery ring has been sentenced to five years probation. Hiram Ortiz of Elizabeth also must serve six months in a halfway house and six months of home confinement under the sentence imposed Thursday by Chief U.S. District Judge Garrett Brown Jr. He also was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and perform 100 hours of community service.

The 43-year-old Ortiz had pleaded guilty in September to charges of receiving stolen property. He could have received up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

Ortiz was among seven others involved in the ring who were indicted in July 2008.
