Del. police: Shoplifter flees in mall security SUV

NEWARK, Del. (AP) - January 31, 2009 Police say 23-year-old Brandon Sanders took $250 in clothes from Macy's and a $50 bottle of cologne from Abercrombie & Fitch on Friday afternoon. When mall security chased him, Sanders drove away in a Ford Escape used by mall security.

However, police say Sanders ditched the SUV and ran back into Macy's, where he was found hiding under a pile of towels in the linens department's storage room.

Sanders was charged with burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, two counts of shoplifting, trespass and drug charges.

He's being held at the Howard Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $6,100 bond. He was also ordered not to return to the mall.
