Mason, Blues shut out Flyers 4-0

ST. LOUIS (AP) - January 31, 2009 Jay McClement, David Backes and Patrik Berglund added goals, Brad Boyes and T.J. Oshie each had two assists, and Mason also had an assist. Mason, who has allowed two goals in his last three starts, also blanked Chicago on Jan. 21.

The Flyers, who were 3-1-1 in their previous five games, were 0-for-11 on the power play that included a full 2-minute 5-on-3 man advantage in the first period.

The Blues opened the scoring after killing off the 5-on-3, with McClement getting his fifth of the season at 4:05 of the first period.

Brad Winchester (tripping) and Oshie (hooking) were in the box and as both came out, Oshie sent Winchester in on Flyers goalie Antero Niittimaki. After Niittimaki stopped Winchester's initial shot with a blocker save, McClement hammered home the rebound from a sharp angle into an empty side.

Colaiacovo, acquired from Toronto along with Alexander Steen on Nov. 24 for Lee Stempniak, made it 2-0 with his second goal of the season 2:45 into the second period, snapping a shot from the slot past Niittimaki off a feed from Keith Tkachuk.

Backes made it 3-0 with his 17th goal at 8:37. Steen took a long outlet feed from Mason that sprung a 2-on-0, then fed Backes in the crease for an easy tap-in.

Berglund's power-play goal came with 4:33 remaining in the game on a one-timer from the right dot.
