Grandma jailed for letting toddlers wander

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (AP) - February 3, 2009 Fifty-five-year-old Jean Jones of Berwick was looking after her 4-year-old grandson and 2-year-old granddaughter for her daughter, who was asleep after working late. But when a neighbor saw the children wandering across the street, it turned out Jones was also sleeping upstairs.

Jones told Judge Scott Naus on Friday the toddlers use chairs to climb on, can get up and down stairs, and are "like little monkeys."

Naus called that "ridiculous." He says kids aren't monkeys, they're kids and parents "have a duty to be a parent." He also fined Jones $300 and says she'll be doing community service.
