Congressman's wife steps down from town council

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (AP) - February 4, 2009 Shelley Adler has announced she's stepping down from the Cherry Hill Township Council because her time has been constrained since her husband, John, was elected to Congress.

She says she's missed two council meetings already this year to care for the couple's four sons. She had been on the council since 2004.

John Adler, a longtime state senator, was sworn in to Congress last month.

Both are Democrats.
