Pa. congressman considering gubernatorial bid

READING, Pa. (AP) - February 7, 2009 U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach says he has established an exploratory committee.

The move will allow Gerlach, who represents parts of Chester and Berks counties, to raise money while deciding whether he will run.

He says he will probably make a decision by late spring.

Gerlach spent two terms in the state House and two terms in the state Senate before he was elected to Congress in 2002.

Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell is in his second term.

Prospective Democratic candidates for 2010 include Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham, Philadelphia businessman Tom Knox and state Auditor General Jack Wagner.
