Pa. murder-suicide plan thwarted

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - February 8, 2009 Police say 48-year-old William Krause of Scranton talked his estranged wife into entering a bedroom with him on Thursday, saying he wanted to show her something. Police say he gave her an apologetic letter and said a murder-suicide was the only way they could be together forever.

But the gun only clicked. Police say they struggled and he knocked her front teeth out. She eventually persuaded him to phone one of their sons, who showed up and took the gun. Marie Krause reported the events to police on Friday.

Krause was arraigned Saturday and is jailed as he awaits a Feb. 17 preliminary hearing. It was unclear Sunday if he had a lawyer.
