Spring sales flower for consignment shops

CHALFONT, Pa. - March 2, 2009

Action News was at the Butterflies and Bullfrogs Children's Consignment Boutique as she and her mom, Heather Kukla, picked out sundresses and flip-flops for Spring and Summer.

Heather Kukla explained that her children quickly outgrow or ruin many of their clothes, so she appreciates the fact that she can get nearly-new items that still look good at half the price of retail at the resale shop.

Like retail stores, most consignment shops are done with winter clothes now and are accepting items like nearly-new sundresses, shorts, bathing suits and Easter outfits.

Unlike many retail stores, though, consignment shops are seeing an upsurge in business.

Owner Beth Milley explains, "More people are looking to clean out their closets than there were before the recession. More people are shopping and more people are bringing in."

A quick look at this store's inventory and prices shows why.

A three-piece Oililly outfit that retails for more than $200 sells here for $100. It still has the tags.

A Ralph Lauren sundress is $25. And a hand-smocked dress, with the $68 price tag on it, is on sale for $34.

There's a whole rack of Lilly Pulitzer shorts and sundresses for 50% off retail and a Burberry outfit including a lace-trimmed top and jeans with the signature Burberry plaid lining is just $50. A Perry Ellis boy's suit is just $40.

Butterflies and Bullfrogs is located at 4275 County Line Road, Suite 14, in Chalfont, Pennsylvania. The phone number is 215-997-7575.
