Runaway girl, 13, involved in police chase

ABSECON, N.J. - February 12, 2009 It all started at approximately 12:05 when a police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle in the area of Fire and Delilah Roads after a random plate check revealed a fictitious registration.

The vehicle pulled over briefly and then sped away. The driver turned onto Delilah Road and entered Pleasantville.

Concerned for the safety the officer stopped pursuing the vehicle after a short distance. Pleasantville Police officers located the vehicle abandoned a short distance from where Officer Dunson had last seen it.

A check of the vehicle determined that it had been reported stolen out of Atlantic City.

An investigation led officers to the Stagecoach Motel in Absecon where they located the 13-year-old driver, her two 13 and 14-year-old female passengers.

The two 13-year-olds were reported runaways out of Atlantic City. The 14-year-old was reported missing out of Ventnor.

The driver was charged with Receiving stolen property and Eluding. She was also charged with several motor vehicle offenses. The girl was released to her parents on the Home Electronic Detention System.

The two passengers were charged with receiving stolen property and hindering their own apprehension by giving false information to a law enforcement officer.

The 14-year-old was also charged with possession of marijuana.

Both were released to their parents.
