Pa. ski resorts finally having good season

STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) - February 17, 2009 Resort officials say skiers showed up in droves at eastern Pennsylvania resorts over the holiday weekend.

Shawnee Mountain spokesman Jim Tust says his resort had one of its best crowds ever.

The ski industry in the Poconos has suffered with unusually warm weather and other problems in recent years. The slumping economy and its impact on the recreation industry also have added to the stress.

Spokesman Michael Cloeren at Jack Frost-Big Boulder says attendance there was up 15 percent over the same holiday in 2008.

Alpine Mountain night manager Scott Matthews says colder weather since mid-November has been a big help, attracting people from nearby Philadelphia and New York.
