Tooth fairy on a mission

Several years ago, family dentists Susan Trager and Fran Rebhun started visit schools to teach good dental health when their own children were small.

Today, the pair - sisters and partners in practice - still go to schools to help kids learn how food choices affect their teeth.

Not infrequently, the kids go home and tell their parents what they've learned, and family shopping may change for the better. A highlight is the visit from Sparkle The Tooth Fairy, the dentists' assistant in a costume she made herself. She reinforces the message with games and prize bags.

The program started in February, which is Children's Dental Health Month. It now runs from January into March, and is also offered in October, National Dental Hygiene Month.
