Robber demanded dye pack, got burned

Authorities say a bad choice of loot left a Philadelphia-area bank robber possibly red-faced but definitely red in other areas. Police say a man walked in a TD Bank in Middletown Township northeast of Philadelphia on Tuesday and told a teller to put money in a plastic bag.

She did, then the man demanded another stack of bills on a counter. He stuffed that in his pocket and ran. But the last stack was a dye pack that activated about 50 yards away, burning a hole in his pocket and coloring his leg red.

Middletown Police Officer Michael Lubold spotted a limping, red-dyed man outside and arrested him. Police say 33-year-old Nathan Berry of Newtown was charged with bank robbery and held in lieu of $100,000 bail. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.
