VIDEO: Funeral Services for Philadelphia Officer Pawlowski

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - February 20, 2009

The caisson carrying Officer John Pawlowski's body arrived at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul before sunrise Friday. At the head of the procession, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.

Thursday night, hundreds of police and others congregated outside the Givnish Funeral Home on Academy Road in Northeast Philadelphia where a viewing was being held.

Mayor /*Michael Nutter*/ and Commissioner /*Charles Ramsey*/ tell Action News they can't believe they have to bury another officer.

/*Pawlowski*/ was the sixth officer killed in the line of duty within the last 16 months.

A public viewing began just before 6:00. A few hours beforehand, hundreds of officers marched down Academy Road. Pawlowski's wife Kim stood by, surrounded by family.

Her grief was clearly evident.

John Pawlowki's father, a retired lieutenant, and his brother Robert, a corporal in police radio, embraced as the procession went by.

Robert was working when his brother was shot, and heard the call come in.

The funeral for Officer Pawlowski will be held Friday. Services will take place at The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul at 1723 Race Street.

The viewing is scheduled for 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 12 Noon.

Interment following services will take place at Resurrection Cemetery at 5201 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, Pa. 19020.
