Two dead in murder, arson; child hurt

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - February 21, 2009

Philadelphia police say a domestic dispute turned deadly and has left one child fighting for her life.

The incident happened in North Philadelphia, on the 2300 block of N 13th Street, around 10 a.m. Saturday.

According to Homicide Lt. Philip Riehl, the call went out first as a domestic stabbing.

The mother, 30-year-old Yolanda Pritchett, and her 11-year-old daughter, Jaynay, were both stabbed by the boyfriend.

The 11-year-old was stabbed when she went over to help her mother.

The daughter remains at St. Christropher's Hospital in stable condition.

The boyfriend set himself and the house on fire, according to homicide.

Yolanda died as a result of the multiple stabbings.

The boyfirend died in the fire.

There were three other children in the house when it was set on fire: a 1-year-old, 8-year-old, siblings of the daughter, and another 11-year-old, who is a cousin.

The 8-year-old rescued the 1-year-old from the burning house and the 11-year-old cousin rescued the stabbed 11-year-old.

The boyfriend and Pritchett were the parents of the 1-year-old.
