OCNJ eyes settlement in boardwalk wood case

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (AP) - February 23, 2009 Ocean City and the Louis Grasmick Lumber Company are suing each other over Ocean City's cancellation of the contract last year.

The resort broke the contract after receiving tens of thousands of protest e-mails from environmentalists around the world objecting to the use of Brazilian ipe, a hardwood prized for its durability.

Under terms of a settlement to be voted on later this week, Ocean City would pay the lumber yard $100,000 in damages and accept much of the ipe wood.
