Philly archdiocese announces $200M campaign

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - February 23, 2009 Cardinal Justin Rigali announced plans for the fundraising effort on Monday at St. Barnabas Parish in southwest Philadelphia. The campaign is called "Heritage of Faith - Vision of Hope."

The five-year effort will raise $70 million for parish improvements and $50 million for education.

Plans also include $25 million to fund repairs and a preservation initiative at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in downtown Philadelphia.

Rigali says the weakening economy must not prevent the archdiocese from pursuing its fundraising goals.
