The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is undertaking a $200 million capital campaign that it hopes will improve parish life and access to Catholic education. Cardinal Justin Rigali announced plans for the fundraising effort on Monday at St. Barnabas Parish in southwest Philadelphia. The campaign is called "Heritage of Faith - Vision of Hope."

The five-year effort will raise $70 million for parish improvements and $50 million for education.

Plans also include $25 million to fund repairs and a preservation initiative at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in downtown Philadelphia.

Rigali says the weakening economy must not prevent the archdiocese from pursuing its fundraising goals.
