Assemblyman Tom Ammiano wants to legalize the illegal weed and tax it.
The San Francisco Democrat introduced a bill yesterday to give marijuana the same legal status as alcohol.
Sales would be restricted to those over 21 and driving under the influence would be against the law.
Ammiano's proposal calls for taxing pot at 50 bucks an ounce.
He says legal pot would bring in an estimated $1 billion in tax money for California.
