Home invaded while couple sleeps

CENTERVILLE, Del. - February 24, 2009 - Around 12:30 this morning, police say they got a report for a burglary in progress at Kentshire Court in Centerville, Delaware.

There, the homeowners said a man broke through a glass door, and charged up the stairs with a baseball bat.

The couple inside, who had been sleeping at the time, tried to hold the bedroom door shut, but police say man forced his way in and stole a jewelry box. He then fled the home.

After processing the crime scene, officers began to suspect 23-year-old Daniel Russo, of Newark, who recently completed some home improvements at the same location.

When police went to Russo's residence, they say he answered the door with bloody hands. It was a result, they say, of him entering the victim's home through the broken glass.

Police are still in the process of recovering the remaining stolen jewelry. The value of the jewelry stolen is estimated at $20,000.

Russo has been charged with robbery in the first degree, burglary in the first degree, aggravated menacing, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
