2nd mistaken inmate released probed

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - February 25, 2009 Correction spokesman John Painter tells WDEL that Darren Brown was brought to the Wilmington lockup last week and released on bail the next day, before staff became aware of an outstanding warrant for violation of probation.

Painter says he's not sure when the missed warrant was filed, or why staff weren't aware of it, but guards caught Brown shortly after he was let out.

Two days later, Charles Thomas was released when staff mistook him for another inmate with the same first and last names but a different middle initial. Thomas was caught the next day.

Painter says investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
