Snow postpones Fumo's corruption trial

The trial of former Pennsylvania state Sen. Vincent Fumo and a co-defendent is off Monday due to heavy snow in the Philadelphia region. The defense is expected to finish its closing arguments this week, followed by the government's rebuttal. Jurors in the four-month case will then begin deliberations on the 141-count indictment.

Fumo is charged with defrauding the state, a charity and a museum of $3.5 million in goods and services.

Prosecutors say the 65-year-old once-powerful Philadelphia Democrat defrauded the Citizens' Alliance for Better Neighborhoods out of $1.1 million by improperly taking its vehicles, power tools, staff time and other assets. A defense lawyer told jurors on Thursday that his client got relatively little from the nonprofit.
