Prosecutor: NJ fatal fire was murder-suicide

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) - March 5, 2009 Prosecutor Ted Housel says an investigation by his office and the county medical examiner determined that the male victim stabbed his girlfriend to death, then set the woman's condominium ablaze and died in the fire.

The fire broke out shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The bodies of 36-year-old Saily Abreu and her boyfriend were recovered from the residence. His name has not been released pending notification of relatives.

Housel said Thursday that an autopsy determined that Abreu, a mother of five girls, died of multiple stab wounds. The boyfriend, who lived in Egg Harbor Township, died of burns and smoke inhalation.

The children are staying with friends and relatives.
