Cinnaminson cop hurt by getaway car

CINNAMINSON, N.J. (AP) - March 6, 2009

Sgt. Frank Rooney suffered leg and hand injuries. He was treated and released from Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro.

Police say Rooney was struck after he and another officer confronted two burglary suspects outside a Cinnaminson home at about 6:45 a.m. Thursday. The suspects jumped into an SUV and drove toward Rooney, who was hit as he attempted to get out of the way.

Eighteen-year-old Francisco Rubio of Philadelphia and a 17-year-old male were arrested a short time later by other officers. Both remain in custody, charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, burglary and related charges.

Police did not know if they had retained lawyers.
