Iraqi heavy metal band visits NJ

ELIZABETH, N.J. - March 6, 2009 - Acrassicauda is a four man band from Iraq. They met nine years ago while studying fine arts in a Baghdad school. A couple of months later, they were playing to 300 fans in a small club in the Iraqi capital.

During the U.S. invasion, lead vocalist Faisal Talal says music took a back seat to survival. He says the band's thinking was "stay home, lock your door."

Then came the death threat. A note tacked to the door of their rehearsal space warned them to quit, because their music didn't "fit with the Iraqi traditions or religion." A series of explosions destroyed the space in 2005.

They then fled the country and after years of living as refugees in Syria and Turkey have finally made it to the U.S. where they hope to find an audience.
