Teen arrested for "rooftop burglaries"

NEWARK, Del. - March 10, 2009 - The crimes have been happening since February 6th.

During the investigation, detectives began focusing on 19-year-old Joseph Pol of Newark. Police say Pol lives within walking distance from the prime location of the burglaries, the Salem Village Shopping Center.

Police conducted surveillance beginning Monday night. At 1:04 a.m. Tuesday, police say they saw Pol breaking into "Modern Nails" in the shopping center.

As he emerged from the business, police approached and Pol fled on foot. Police say he was arrested in the Sandalwood Apartments after shedding some clothes in an attempt to throw off pursuing troopers.

Pol faces a number of felony burglary and theft charges, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.

The locations and dates of the robberies are:

Modern Nails, Salem Village Square Shopping Center, (February 6th)
Modern Nails, Salem Village Square Shopping Center, (February 12th)
H&J Barber Shop, Salem Village Square Shopping Center, (February 12th)
Fresh Hot Bagels, 695 East Chestnut Hill Road, (February 16th)
VIP Nails, 695 Eats Chestnut Hill Road, (February 16th)
Modern Nails, Salem Village Square Shopping Center, (February 26th)
Modern Nails, Salem Village Square Shopping Center, (March 10th)

Upon arraignment, Pol was released on a $5,600 unsecured bond.
