Stability balls in the classroom

Essex County, N.J. - March 11, 2009 They're trading their traditional chairs at Ridgewood Avenue School for stability balls. The balls were made by the Witt Fitt Company and are said to promote learning through 'active sitting.'

The maker says the stability balls enhance blood flow and that improves concentration and enhances attention. The balls have four special legs on the bottom to help with balance. They're also said to improve posture.

"I'm kind of slouching right now, cause I'm just used to doing that but on a stability ball, it's uncomfortable to slouch so you sit up more straight," said Charlie Bodell while straightening his posture.

The Witt Fitt company says the balls cost less than desk chairs although they don't last as long. Schools using the stability balls are given training online to make sure the balls are used properly and safely.
