Medina was assigned to Coast Guard Training Center Cape May and was one of the 23-year-old victim's commanders during boot camp.
The victim was invited to Medina's home to watch a boxing match about a month after graduation in 2007.
He testified that he had gotten drunk and his former commander groped him after Medina's wife and three children went to bed. The recruit said he awoke to find Medina performing oral sex on him.
There is an automatic appeal to the Coast Guard Court of Criminal Appeals.
