The charges are unrelated to Knox's position at DSU and the checks were written before she was named to temporarily oversee the athletic programs.
Prosecutors say Knox borrowed $33,000 from a Bear-based business in 2007 and promised to pay the money back a short time later with $7,000 in fees. But three checks she wrote to Avid bounced.
Knox's attorney says there was no written loan agreement and that the deal involved a business called DPK Services, not Knox.
