Elderly suffers major burns after fire

An elderly woman is fighting for her life after a house fire in South Philadelphia Saturday afternoon. The fire was reported in the 1800 block of Jackson Street around 4:15 p.m.

The fire was brought under control in less than five minutes, but an 80-year-old woman suffered second and third degree burns to over 50 percent of her body.

She was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition.

Fire officials are investigating.
