The Black Horse Pike in West Atlantic City was shutdown for several hours this morning after a motorist struck a pedestrian. Police say a 1989 Ford Econoline conversion van, driven by Mark Czarnota, 53, of Norwood, Pennsylvania, was traveling west on Black Horse Pike when it struck a pedestrian crossing the highway.

The pedestrian, identified as 26-year-old John Otunba of Brooklyn, was crossing the Black Horse Pike north towards the Golden Key Motel when he was struck.

Otunba was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center where he pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Czamota suffered minor injury and was transported to Shore Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

Traffic was detoured for approximately three hours while the collision was being investigated and cleared.

Egg Harbor Township Police are investigating.
