Water back on at Cheyney University

CHEYNEY, Pa. - March 25, 2009 - The break prevented anyone from drinking water or bathing all day. However, officials said the water was back on Wednesday evening.

However, while the water can be used for bathing, it is still not safe for drinking.

Drinking water service should be restored by Thursday.

The break was reported at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Campus officials say water service was disrupted last evening for a scheduled repair. The repairs began Tuesday night, and a water disruption was only expected between 9:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.

However, the aging infrastructure was unable to hold up in time for repairs to be completed. The water main is a high pressure main.

Bottled water was delivered to dorms and box lunches were be made available at the main dining center.
