Police: 19-year-old assaults 10-year-old

Southwest Philadelphia - March 26, 2009 Walter Vicks has been charged with with Rape, Aggravated Assault, Sexual Assault, and other related offenses.

The incident took place Thursday afternoon when a neighbor near the intersection of 56th Street and Springfield.

Police tell Action News, the 10-year-old boy was riding on his bike after school when he was kidnapped by a 19-year-old male, identified as, Walter Vicks. and dragged into a renovated home on South 56th Street.

Inside the home, police say the boy was assaulted.

Vicks has been charged with voluntary deviant sexual intercourse

A witness says he was in his home next door when his wife alerted him that something bad was going on next door.

"She heard screams. She said, 'Does this sound crazy to you?' I said, 'Yeah, why is he screaming so loud?' I said, 'Maybe they're roughhousing.' No, it wasn't roughhousing, because after that you can hear the little boy making little gestures that sounded like something other than them roughhousing," neighbor Lonnie Mitchell said.

Neighbors then called 911 and police soon arrived moments later.

They captured Vicks as he tried to escape through the back of the house.

The sexual assault took place at around 1:30 p.m. The 10-year-old boy was home after his school had an early dismissal.

The 10-year-old boy was transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Vicks was taken to Mercy Hospital of Philadelphia in an unknown condition after he sustained injuries in trying to escape.
