Mrs. Fixit: Painting A Floor

March 29, 2009

If your floor's been previously painted, scrape away chips. the new paint will adhere and give you a nice finish.

Next step, vaccuum. You need to remove all remnants of dust from the floor. Make sure you get the sides and corners as well.

Wash the floor with hot water and dishwasher detergent. This will strip away any dirt and oil from the floor.

Then, put a fan on the area and let it dry completely.

Once you're ready to paint, choose a good, quality floor enamel which is designed to hold up to foot traffic.

Then start by cutting in around the perimeter. for a nice line, load the paintbrush, set it on the floor a couple of inches away from the edge, then move to the outside, sweeping along the baseline in a fluid motion. Before you lift your brush, sweep it back out from the edge so you don't get pulling.

For the center of the floor, use a roller on a pole for ease of application and a nice clean finish.

Easy steps to ensure a beautiful finish. I'm Mrs. Fixit and it's just that simple.
