200 pupils reported sick at Pa. school

TOBYHANNA, Pa. (AP) - March 28, 2009 Officials say one of three of the 603 students at the Coolbaugh Elementary Center was stricken on Friday. They say about half of the sick children stayed home and the rest were sent home after falling ill in school.

Pocono Mountain School District spokeswoman Wendy Frable says officials do not believe it was a case of food poisoning or water contamination. State health officials suggest that a norovirus or stomach flu may be running through the school. Only 25 students were absent Thursday.

The school will be open Monday, but officials recommend that ill students remain home.
