Man shot in New Castle attempted robbery

NEW CASTLE, Del. - March 29, 2009 Officers responded to the 100 block of Parma Avenue shortly around 11:25 after getting calls for a disturbance in the area.

When they arrived officers heard four shots fired. Police called for assistance and went to investigate. They discovered a 24-year-old man in a front yard suffering from a gunshot wound to his left leg.

The officer was then told that the shooter had ran behind the home. When the officer checked the area, he saw a subject in the distance matching the description.

The subject immediately ran off and the officer gave chase. Multiple police units responded to the area however the subject was never found.

Police were able to determine that the victim was outside with several other people when the suspect approached, demanding cash. When the victim didn't comply with the demands, the gunman fired several shots.

Medics transported the victim to Christiana Hospital in stable condition.

A nearby home and vehicle were also struck and damaged by the gunfire
